Rules and Expectations:
Students are expected to come to class every day prepared and ready to learn with a positive attitude. Students are expected to act in a manner conducive to learning. If students are not able to follow the rules, there will be consequences. Consequences could be one or more of the following, depending on severity of behavior:
Materials and Supplies:
Students are expected to have all necessary materials needed to ensure they will be successful in class. Each day, students should bring the following:
GRADING SCALE:
The grading scale is consistent among the entire Blackhawk Junior High and is as follows:
A = 90 – 100%
B = 80 – 90%
C = 70 – 80%
D = 60 – 70%
F = 0 – 59%

Late Work:
Any student without their assignment will be referred to homework club and will fill out a Missing Homework slip. All late assignments will be recorded as a zero in the gradebook until the work is turned in. Each student will get two late assignments per quarter. Any subsequent late after the first two, will only be able to be turned in for 50% credit.
Absent Policy:
In the event of an absence, students are required to makeup all in class work and homework assigned the day of the absence. Any student that is absent should check in immediately with me upon their arrival back at school. In the event of a planned absence, it is encouraged to get work before the absence.
Corrections/Retake Policy:
Students may make corrections on any assignment that received a score lower than a C. Corrections should be turned in with the original assignment. Students may retake a quiz or test that received a score lower than a C. Test and quiz retakes will need to be arranged with me and be taken in class only.
Remind Alerts:
Along with emails through the school email system, I will be using “Remind”, which is a free messaging app that is built for schools. Your student and you can choose to receive text messages to your cell phones about upcoming project due dates, quizzes, tests, and other reminders throughout the year. These are simply reminders, and it is a one way system which means you may not respond to them. If you would like to be included, simply text @hh23hh to the number 81010, and you will be signed up for the rest of the year.

- Seat change
- Teacher/student conference
- Parent contact
- Detention
- Referral to principal/removal from class

Grading Plan:
1. Homework:
- Homework is an important part of learning and mastering math concepts. Homework will be given almost daily and should be considered practice for tests. Students almost always have time in class to begin their assignments which are due the next day at the beginning of class.
2. Problem of the Day:
- Students will receive problems for the week on Monday and these are DUE on FRIDAY! Students will be responsible for correcting their assignments. These problems will be gone over every day in class, and should be an easy 5 points a week.
3. Quizzes
- Quizzes (5-10 questions) are given weekly/biweekly to figure out what topics should be reviewed further before tests.
4. Tests
- Tests will be given at the end of each unit. The purpose of a test is to give a valid assessment on whether or not the content is mastered within each unit.
- Projects will be assigned periodically throughout the year. Students will receive information on these projects as the date arises. Students will be given ample time to complete projects, and may even be given extra time in class. Students will be graded with a rubric, which will communicate the expectations of the project and assess specific criteria for the assignment.
- There will be periodic notebook checks throughout the year. The purpose of a notebook check is to make sure students are taking good notes, and are staying organized.
